Flood Management Projects
The major flood management project to upgrade two sections of dike in Brackendale and North Yards is complete and the dikes are once again open for non-motorized public access.
A $1.2 million grant from Emergency Management British Columbia (EMBC) funded this important project which improves safety to our community in the event of a major flood event.
We ask the public to take extra care to help protect the investment made into the dike improvements and the Whittaker Slough upgrade:
- Winter conditions still exist and the ground is soft.
- Road capping will be laid once weather improves and current site conditions dry out.
- Hydro seeding has been installed and needs time to take hold.
- The new multi-step crest profile, designed to allow for future installation of river-side bank erosion protection (rip rap), provides a narrower 'road'.
- Gates have been installed at the North Yards dike to prevent vehicle traffic from accessing the upgraded area.
Thank you for your support of this critical work!
